We don't use our Top 20's as much as we should so on Friday night we decided to go to Bottoms Up and use it for the first time. The Glue got the fried chicken with a salad and slaw. I got the all you can eat catfish special with slaw and chips. Both were excellent choices, the only complaint would be about the chips. The complaint wouldn't be about taste, they were good, just a lot of fried food.
Yesterday we went to Route 51 because we hadn't been there in a while and the menu we found online listed gumbo which we wanted to try. When we got there it wasn't on the menu but they said they are revamping the menu some and probably will have gumbo and po' boys on it. We both went with the Irish Red and while it was good it needed to be colder. We ended up getting a pretzel and and order of wings in asian sauce. Both were good but the pretzel needed more salt. From there we stopped at Backwater Pub for the first time. It used to be Ten Pin Alley and we knew it was going to be a good time when some guys at the bar harassed us when we walked in. We both got a Shiner Bock tall and enjoyed the show. The guys were in town for the midget races and were from Iowa. The couple next to us were also in for the races from Ohio. We had a really good time and probably should have stayed there for another one. We then went to Sandies which is where Larry's Pit BBQ used to be. This is a new place and it didn't have a very good selection of beer. There were a couple guys at the bar and we had a good discussion with them and added a couple places to my checklist. Next we headed over to the Hop in Christopher and had a couple of their Irish Red which is probably my favorite locally brewed beer. We were the only two in the place so there wasn't anything happening. The Glue did try their chili which was ok but had too many beans in it for either of us. We then went to T Street pub for the first time. As soon as we walked in there was a strong scent of garlic cooking. They had a pasta bar set up which looked and smelled awesome. I talked to the guy running it and they do it every Saturday night so we'll probably be back there shortly to try it out. While we were at the bar drinking our beer (Stag for me, Shiner Bock for the Glue) we got to talking with the bartender who asked us if we'd been to a bar down the street called S & S Tavern and I said we almost did. Come to find out he was the owner of S & S and also T Street and he gave us each a drink chip for S & S. We ordered a pizza from Dimaggio's to bring home. Once we got home it really hit the spot but needed to be warmer which we knew was going to be a problem.
