Part 2 of our anniversary trip.
After we left Who Dat's and Washy's we headed down to Waterloo to checkout Hopskeller. When we got there the street in from of the Subburn German was closed down and I figured it was an Octoberfest party going on. We kept to the plan and went to Hopskeller. Really nice place and there were a lot of people there. We got a couple of the last seats at the bar and after trying a few of the beers I ordered an Illinois Common Ale while I think the Glue got a Market Cross London Lager. Both were really good and the people at the bar were real friendly. One couple went to SIU while another guy is originally from Caterville. Nice place with good beer that we will go back to. We left there to see what was going on at Stubborn German which turned out to be Subbornfest. An absolutely great atmosphere. The bar was close to being full and so was their outside area. There were also tables set up in the street that were mostly full. There were a lot of men in Lederhosen and women in Dirndl. Many others had alpine type hats and almost everyone had a beer in their hand. Keep in mind this was midafternoon on a Friday. The Waterloo German Band was playing on a stage and everyone seemed to be having a good time. We got lucky and found a seat at the bars outside rail and I ordered a couple Octoberfest beers. The beer was good but we got the Schitzengiggles for our second beer. The guy sitting next to us came up from Campbell Hill for the event and does every year. Even though we were having a great time once we finished the second beer it was time to head home and thus ended one of our better anniversaries.
