St Nicholas had a brown sugar pork chop topped with fried onions special that sounded good so we went up to Du Quoin. When we got there it was a downpour. It was hard to see and 51 was already flooded to the point where I kept thinking we might stall. Lucky we were in the Glue's jeep.
We finally got there and the street in front of St Nicholas was flooded. We sat in the parking lot for at least 20 minutes and several people waded across the street and the water was above their ankles. We finally moved across the street to the parking lot beside the building that is for another place but they were already closed for the day. We sat there for 10 minutes or so before we made a run for it. I ordered the pork chop and the waiter said it didn't start until 5. I hate it when a place advertises something then doesn't have it until later in the day. Of course I hate it when they don't start the dinner options until later. Anyway the waiter went back and asked and he said they sides wouldn't be ready. I asked could I sub different sides and he once again went back and asked and was told that would be ok so I subbed brussel sprouts for the twice baked potato and fresh green beans. The Glue ordered a BLT with fries. I thought I would only get brussel sprouts with the pork chop but when it arrived it also had potatoes. I don't think they were twice cooked but more like roasted chunks of a potato and they had a really nice seasoning on them. The brussel sprouts are one of my favorite things there and they didn't disappoint. The pork chop was cooked great and had a really good flavor. It's hard to mess up bacon but they did the Glues BLT. I confess to thinking she was just being picky but when I took a bite the bacon was burnt. It took me a while to get the taste out of my mouth. For mine 🍺🍺🍺🍺 For the Glues 🍷 and that's being generous. Going home the right lane of 51 was still closed due to flooding so we went by the high school and there were a lot of yards really flooded.
