It should be well known that we really don't go to chain restaurants very often but my golfing buddy Mike said he'd gone to Chili's with his son and the BBQ brisket burger was really good. So after a frustrating, irritating and any other of those type words you can think of we decided to give it a try. It had been quite a few years since we went there but at one time we really liked it. Then came a menu change and it just wasn't as good.
We both got large Blue Moon drafts. I got the BBQ brisket burger with slaw on the side and extra pickles. The Glue got spicy shrimp tacos. My burger was good but the BBQ on it was mediocre. The fries were solid. The Glue's tacos were very good and she really liked the black beans that came with it. Overall the best experience we've had there in a long time. 🍺🍺🍺🍷

A few days ago we decided to go to the Landmark for a beer and a sandwich. It's always a nice trip up route 3 and their menu has a few more options than their sister brewery in the airport.
I ordered a Cocoa Milk Stout and the Glue got a 5 speed lager. I decided on a catfish po boy and the Glue went with a bacon sandwich. I've become a fan of Milk Stouts since having one at the airport brewery MDH. The Glues lager was a really nice lighter beer. I didn't realize that my po boy would come with shrimp too. It was a really nice sandwich but was very messy. I especially liked the fried shrimp on it and will probably just get fried shrimp next time we're there. The fries were good but nothing special. The Glue's bacon sandwich was good but it didn't seem like it had much bacon on it. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 After we left the Southerner we stopped in Katy O'ferrells. They were out of their Irish Red so we both got an Irish Red from Six Mile Bridge. We've had it before but this just didn't taste as good as I remembered it. There was another couple having lunch at the bar and we started talking to each other. They were from Paducah but it ends up the guy was from Benton and it was their anniversary. Really good conversations with them so we got a second round. I got a Smithwicks and the Glue got a mimosa. She said the mimosa was real good, not as minty as usual.
We left there and drove to Minglewood, it was too hot to walk anywhere. We both got a Nomad mild dark ale and it was really good. It's supposed to be a regular there so we now have a go to beer there. The bar tender told us about a new brewery, Many Good Things, down by river so we drove down there. It's a small place and we got there just before it really started filling up. We both ordered an amber ale and it was by far the best beer I had in Cape. I was going to get a couple cans to take home but they didn't have it in cans. Good place we will revisit when we are down there again. Yesterday we went down to Cape for a quick day trip. We discussed several places before deciding on the Southerner in part because of recommendations for friend, classmate, cooworker Debbie who lives in Cape and also our nephew Andrew.
We stopped in Academy to check a few things out and then headed to the Southerner. We'd stopped there for a beer earlier in the year we were familiar with it. When we got there earlier than we normally go places and it was crowded. Luckily there were a couple tables open in the small bar area which we preferred anyway. I'd been torn between catfish nuggets or pork chops on the way down. I decided on the fried catfish nuggets with brussell sprouts and slaw. The Glue got shrimp creole and a spinach salad. My catfish wasn't the best I've had but it was still good. The tartar sauce was different but okay, I'd have preferred a more mainstream one. The brussell sprouts were good but a tad overdone. The slaw was some of the best I've had, it was awesome. The Glue said her spinach salad was probably the best she's had, it was really good. She also really liked the creole and the shrimp on it were on point. My catfish was supposed to come with hushpuppies which isn't really my thing. When the food came out the waitress said the hushpuppies were overdone and they were making more. Really respect that rather than serving stuff you know isn't right. The staff was really busting their butts off but still were friendly and helpful. When we were finishing up what appeared to be the cook came out and talked for a moment which was nice. Really good place that we'll add to our normal Cape spots 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 We haven't been going to many places lately other than our standard area places. We also took the summer off from bocce so there hasn't been much worth posting lately. On Wednesday we did go to one of our favorites, Broadway Bayou in Sparta.
I got etouffee and the Glue got a whole fried chicken all white, mashed potatoes with white gravy and a salad with french dressing. We got an extra bowl to split the salad and it was very good. They've changed the etouffee and I think it's even better than before. The Glue's chicken was on point once again and the taste or two I had of the mashed potatoes hit the spot. Needless to say we had a lot of food to bring home. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 |
