When I got home we decided to take a little drive while we decided where to go to eat. After dropping a sample of brisket to long time friend BBJ we decided to go to JTs On The Hill. We had a little time to blow since they don't open until 4pm so we stopped at Teddy's in Herrin for a beer. I'm always surprised how close Zeigler is Herrin so we got there a little after 4.
After much deliberation over a pitcher of Blue Moon we decided to split a ribeye instead of fried chicken or prime rib which was the special. The waitress was very helpful with suggesting things and telling us what she thought was the best things on the menu. We got two salads and onion rings to go with the steak. The salads came first and were real good. When the steak and onion rings arrived the waitress had brought an extra plate and steak knife for us. The Glue cut off a piece of steak and most of it was fat. The rest of the steak was very good even if it was overdone for medium. The onion rings were solid and overall it was a great choice. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 Didn't get the full five 🍺 only because of the limited draft selection and the steak being past medium. On the way home we stopped in at Big Muddy Brewing for a quick beer before heading home. It too was a great choice. We don't get there as often as we should mainly because the beer has a tendency to not be as cold as we like it.

Last night we played at 7:30 and 8, at least it was a very nice night. In the first game we took on Solid Shooters. In each of the first two frames we had wide open opportunities and walked away with one point. Normally this ends up biting you in the butt but we kept at it and won 9-3.
The next game didn't get started until 8:30ish and was another long one. We had an early lead and then let them back in and they ended up beating us 9-6. We had several really good shots that just didn't work out. Last night we took on Squatchy Bocce in the first game. They've been our nemesis and rival over the years so it's always fun to play them. We were never really threatened by them and won 9-4 I believe.
In the second game we played Holy Balz. We got off to a typical Roll'em start and fell behind 5-0 after one point and four point frames. We turned the tables on them with a one point and four point frames and tied the score 5-5. We couldn't keep up the momentum and they finished us off with a pair of two point frames, 9-5. Yesterday when I got home from golf the house smelled from the primer the Glue had put on a downstairs wall so that it could be painted today. The obvious thing to do was take a road trip to get something to eat.
We decided on the Landmark in Chester. We like the place and the route 3 drive is a nice drive. When we got there it wasn't open for some reason so we decided to head to Perryville. We've ate at Mary Jane's several times so we decided to try Southern Roots. We went there for a beer one time but this was our first time eating there. They had Southern Pecan from Lazy Magnolia on draft so we both got that. We both debated on several things but I decided on fried catfish with slaw and a salad. The Glue got shrimp scampi that came with a salad. She also had them sprinkle cajun seasoning on the top. When the salads arrived it was a spring mix type salad which isn't my favorite but it was still okay. I like fried fish with tartar sauce on it and when my plate arrived the tartar sauce looked like russian dressing but the fish and the sauce were both good. The slaw was creamy but still good. The Glue's scampi was excellent. It came on a bed of angel hair pasta and had quite a few shrimp in it. The Glue said it was probably the best non-red sauce pasta she'd ever had. If/when we got back I'll probably go with it. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 Main downside to the trip is the catfish or something started to weigh "heavy" on my big belly. Yesterday I joined up with Holy Ballz Batman to playe in the Flag Day tournament. After a nice opening ceremonies from the Elks flag crew and others it was time to play.
In the first game we were never threatened and beat the Pallino Pounders 9-1. In the second game we played Big Muddy Monsters. They got out to a Roll'em like 5-0 lead before we scored 9 straight points to win 9-5. In the semi-final of the winners bracket we played Misfits of Bocce. I don't remember the score but we won and moved on to the final of the double elimination tournament. In the final of the winners bracket we beat the Punishers to remain the lone unbeaten team but that also meant we had to sit for a while to see who came out of the losers bracket. The Punishers were once again our opponents and had to beat us twice. In the first game they beat us 9-6 so we played a final game for the championship. In the champion ship it was back and forth until the Punishers made two really nice throws to take a 7-5 lead. Fred was on fire all day and got one close to the pallino and made the Punishers use up all their balls and still left it fairly wide open. Fred got his second ball in and then Ian got his first in but his second ball looked short but rolled out enough for us to get the four points we needed and the championship. It was a very hot and humid day and it was tough on everybody. With the later start of the tournament we didn't get finished until around 7pm and I was worn out when I got home. This past week I went to Jackson Country Club for a round of golf and afterwards me and Fred went into the newly revamped clubhouse called the Masters. The inside looks really nice now. We didn't start golfing until 11am so we got to the clubhouse in the middle of the afternoon. They had put away their special of a meatloaf plate and our only options were hotdogs or hamburgers so we both opted for burgers. I got fries and Fred got a bag of chips. The burger tasted a little overdone and dried out for me but the fries were very good. It was disappointing that they didn't have their full menu that is being advertised.
🍺🍺 Roll'em kicked off the summer league last night with Danny and Jean taking the place of Herbster and Clutch for the season.
In the first game we started off in true Roll'em fashion with Boccelism jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Then we got hot and the cooled off and we scored 9 straight points to win 9-5. In the second game we moved to the new court and played Usual Suspects. They kept making throw after throw and jumped out to an early lead with the big play being knocking us out of three points and giving them three points with their last throw. Roll'em ended up on the short side of a 9-6 loss. I'm still struggling and have to figure out what I'm doing wrong in a hurry. In a quirk of the schedule we play the 8 o'clock game every week and I hate 8 o'clock games. Wednesday we went over to Quatros, something we've done in the past quite regularly. Sadly the waitress informed us that they no longer have their Wednesday beer special. I'd be afraid to estimate the number of $.99, $1.99 and $2.99 pitchers we've had over the past several decades but it would be enough to fill a large lake. Of course the pizza was great as always.
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 I think I heard taps playing somewhere when we were told about no more beer specials :-( |
