Friday the Glue wanted a little drive and pizza that was different from our normal places. After much research I came across Galati's in Perryville so took another trip up route 3. It is a couple blocks away from Mary Jane's Burgers and Brews and Jackson Street Brewery so we had a couple of places within walking distance.
We got there and it's a small place but the people were very friendly and one of them had her son there who was a character and later her husband walked in and our waitress was the grandma. They had a buffett going but we wanted a fresh pizza and ordered our standard pepperoni and mushroom. The pizza was real good and while it tasted different kind of reminded me of IV's. Downside was a very limited beer selection. We left there and stopped at Mary Jane's for a beer. They had the front widows partially opened which would have been great if it was a little warmer. Our next stop was Jackson Street Brewery. The beer was ok but could have been colder. We had a great conversation with another couple who lived in Cape and are friends with Luke who is originally form Murphysboro and who we know. We then walked to the 5:05 Lounge but as soon as we walked it was obvious they allowed smoking so we headed back the other way. We passed what appeared to be beer garden with people setting up so I asked if we could get a beer. The lady laughed and we started talking to her a little. She told us about another place a couple blocks away called Southern Roots. Come to find out she is the owner of Mary Jane's and we probably talked to her for 20 minutes or so. Very nice person. We walked to Southern Roots for a final beer and when we walked in there was the lady and her husband from Galati's at the bar. In talking with them we found out they were the owners of Galati's. Very nice people too. There's a good chance Southern Roots will be our next eating place in Perryville. We had a great time in Perryville with the only downside being the weather was overcast and a tad on the cool side.

When I got home from golf on Saturday I had an urge for a cheeseburger so after strongly considering Sandys that we'd been to the day before we decided on the Landmark. It was a beautiful day and when we got there it was outside seating only which wasn't a big deal. We sat in the sun overlooking the Mississippi.
I ordered a Trinity burger which was ground beef mixed with chorizo topped with a piece of andouille sausage, provolone, grilled onions and peppers and a remoulade. The Glue ordered a spinach salad with chicken. My burger was great but next time I get it I may take the andouille and eat it separate. The chips that came with it were good but I really didn't need fried with all I had the day before. The Glue said her salad was also real good but she probably shouldn't have ordered it with chicken. While we were sitting there we ran into a nice couple on a motorcycle who were from Sparta. The day before we'd ran into another nice couple at Pheasant Hollow who were from Mulkeytown. Friday we went to Jack Russell's Fish House in Benton in part so we could use our top 20. It was a beautiful day for a ride but was a little cool with the windows down and the T tops off so we had to roll up the windows.
At Jack Russells I once again got catfish with slaw and onion rings. The Glue's trying to eat better so she got peel and eat shrimp with a salad and red beans and rice. Once again the slaw was not great and while the catfish was ok it wasn't as good as the previous time. The onion rings were good though. The peel and eat shrimp were real good but the red beans and rice seemed to be primarily beans and were just ok. Last time the salad wasn't very impressive but this time it was the best thing we ordered and the croutons were excellent. We walked across the street to Sandy's Bar and Grill and boy did it smell good when we walked in. I thought it smelled like grilled onions and the Glue couldn't really place it. They were cooking Italian beef but had also just fixed a patty melt. In talking I happened to mention we were from Murphysboro and what turned out to be the owner said she was born there. Come to find out I'd gone to jr high and my freshman year with her brother. She was a year behind me and they'd moved the year she came into high school. Also in talking the Glue mentioned the smell and they brought out a small sample of the italian beef which tasted a lot like what the Glue used to make. To Close out the day we went to Pheasant Hollow (hollow hollow) winery. The Glue got a Shiner Bock while I tried a Drunken Piper Scottish ale from Baums Brewhouse in Waltonville. I was really good and reminded me of a Scottish ale I usually keep in the beer fridge. It was so nice I got a second one but the Glue got a slushy where they combined the red and white slushys and it was excellent. Outside was starting to get in the shadows and cooling down so it was time to head home. Before we could head out the Glue decided to get a couple slushy's to go and I picked up a bottle of Sauced Up Smokers bbq sauce. The Glue looked like a kid who'd gone to DQ sitting there eating her slushy with spoon. Thursday was the Glue's birthday. To celebrate I grilled a couple ribeyes and we took it easy. On Friday we got together with John and Lisa aka Baby Daddy and Baby Mama whose anniversary is next weekend.
Since we had two Lisa's the only logical thing to do was go to Lisa's Market Street Pub in Prairie du Rocher. They'd never been there and the Glue had been telling them how good their fried chicken is. We went up through Steelville and cut over to Chester which was real nice since I don't remember ever being on it before and it was a great day for a ride with the T tops off the Glue's new Jeep. There were only a couple tables in use so we found a nice one with plenty of shade. One of the specials was catfish so I ordered that with slaw and cucumber salad. The Glue got fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and also a cucumber salad. Baby Mama go wings and Baby Daddy got a cheeseburger with fries since he doesn't get them much at home. My catfish, slaw and cucumber salad were great, I really like all three a lot. The Glue's fried chicken was once again awesome, one of the best around. When we left we went to Mary's in Ruma for a quick beer and to show them the phone booth but once we arrived we decided to head on to Evansville an Water Street Pub for a beer. There were no boats on the river and Baby Daddy said he'd heard they won't go on the Kaskaskia anymore because of the asian carp. Sure enough when we looked in the river there was at least 40-50 of them. Baby Daddy had a talk with what appeared to be a local about them and ended up getting offered some hash. They'd never been to Rose's Bourbon Rail since it reopened so we headed there next for a beer. I ordered some mushrooms to snack on but they weren't as good as I remembered and it seemed very disorganized there. That ended a very nice day We took a little Jeep ride last Monday down to Alto Pass to show our nephew and his family the Glue's new Jeep. We had just got there and across the street a couple Jeeps pull up to the store and they happened to be people we knew. Mike said they were going on short ride on some rock roads and we decided to go with them. It was a nice little ride and he showed us a really nice back road in the Pine Hills area.
We decided to cut it short and head back to 17th Street to get some wings and pork rinds to bring home. I got the wings crispy but when we ate them they seemed like their normal wings and were just ok. We then got a call from our nephew on Wednesday telling us that his wife had tested positive so it was a good thing we didn't have any contact with her on Monday. Andrew wanted to bring Ethan's homework down there. It was a nice day out so we loaded up Greyson and headed down. After we dropped it off we decided to stop at Von Jakobs to get lunch. Moo Moo wanted fries and a hamburger while the Glue wanted a pretzel. I got the schnitzel which comes with German potatoes and slaw. When the food got there I had french fries instead of german potatoes. I asked why and the waiter said they were out of the german potatoes. I wish I would have known that ahead so I could order double slaw which I really like. The schnitzel was a tale of two schnitzels. The first part was just ok but the last part was excellent. The Glues pretzel was good and Moo Moo's burger was solid. His behavior on the other hand was great, as good as can be expected from a three year old. Around 12:30 yesterday we had our test for COVID-19. They told us it would be 2-3 days but around 9 this morning we got a test saying we were negative.
As fate would have it our daughter was on her way over with a couple sodas and she also had the twins who we haven't seen in over a week. You could tell they'd really missed us too and had a blast in our newly redone basement. Of course then they had to take a ride in mama's new Jeep. It's a big relief not having to be quarantined and worry about having it. On Monday we went down to Cape to look at a Jeep. The Glue has been wanting one for quite a while but I wanted to wait until my Durango was paid off. Her Mariner has been a very good car for 12 years but with the Durango paid off I've been starting to look around. We've been in no hurry waiting for the right vehicle.
The wait is finally over. I'd been wanting a 2019-20 used Jeep but we got a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport. It's red with a black top and while it doesn't have every feature it has enough to make it a very nice vehicle. It didn't come with the step sides which is important when you're vertically challenged. Our salesman, Don from Morlans, sent us to Johnny at Auto Trim Designs to look at them. Don sends his customers to Johnny in return Johnny gives them a real good price. When we got there Johnny said they had a barely used set in the back that he would give us a great deal on. I wasn't real wild about putting used ones on a brand new Jeep but looked anyway. You couldn't tell they were used, someone must have got a new vehicle and exchanged them for something different. We decided to get them and they could be put on right away. We also got Weathertech floor and cargo liners. They didn't have the cargo liner but they could have one shipped to their store in Marion. While they were putting everything on they let us use a car and so we went to Katy O'Ferrels for lunch and a drink. I got the Celtic pot pie with champ and carrots. The Glue went with soup and salad. We both ordered their house Irish Red and were really let down when they were out of it. The waitress said they had a replacement and after a taste of it we both ordered it. It was a Irish Red Ale with honey from Six Mile Bridge in Maryland Heights Mo.. It was great and I may like it better than their house Irish Red. My Celtic pot pie was very good and the carrots were exceptional. The champ was ok but wasn't very warm and I'd rather have mashed potatoes instead of having it mixed with chives. The Glue said her soup and salad was good but she would rather have a little more soup and a little less salad, it was a big salad. Our vehicle was ready when we went back so we brought it on home with no problems. The next day we went to Marion to pick up our cargo liner and on the way back we stopped at Caribbean Hut at Staples. I'd been wanting a po' boy so I got that with corn and cabbage while the Glue got shrimp with corn and lobster salad. My po' boy was ok but very messy and hard to eat. The corn and cabbage were both solid. The Glue's shrimp were real good but she didn't eat her lobster salad. On the way home we got a call that told us we had been in contact with someone who has tested positive for covid-19 so now begins the waiting before we can be tested and get the results. Yuck |
