The website editor that I use decided to lose my blog post last Thursday and I've been fighting a health issue ever since.
Roll'em took the court as the MBC's only undefeated team but faced two teams close behind them in the standings. In the first game we faced off against the 2nd place team Biotches. In the first frame the girls got us started right with a three point frame, however the boys turned around and gave them three points for a tie game. Roll'em proceeded to get a series of one point frames surrounding a one point Biotches frame, putting us out to a 6-3 lead. With Herbster having a point and me having two fairly easy throws left I shorted the second one and left us with a 6-3 lead. The biotches got a point the next frame to make it 6-4 and poised for a run at us. However partner Herbster got a point in and while their next ball shuffled the other balls around Herbsters remained the point giving us a 9-4 lead. In the second game against long time nemesis Squatchy Bocce everything that went right for us the first game went wrong. Squatchy jumped out first to a 1-0 lead, then Captain Dusty knocked them in front of our point for a 2-0 deficit. At this point it was all Squatchy jumping out to 6-0 lead before we were able to string together a couple meaningless points. They closed out the last three and visions of an undefeated season went down hard 9-2. I've got to hand it to the Squatches, when we made a good shot they made a better or knocked ours out. Since both second place teams lost we are still in first place by a hair but missed a great opportunity to put some space between us the other Wednesday night teams.

The Glue and I decided to head up to Green Bay 9:30ish instead of sitting around the hotel. We got there early enough that most of the neighborhood houses weren't out trying to get people to park in their yard. One guy was out waving a Packer flag so we ended up parking in his yard for $30. We had to walk about a half block one way and then another half block in another and we were at Lambeau. We walked around the outside of the stadium since nothing was open, a lot has changed since we were last there almost 15 years ago. We went back to the car to have a beer and a party bus was parked in the guys driveway so we hung out with them for a while, what a hoot and most weren't even going to the game. They were going to go down the street to a bar and watch.
We then decided to go to Krolls and have a butter burger and split some fries to soak beer that would be consumed. These burgers are legendary. The Glue then got a text from her classmate Alan who got us the tickets and him and his buddy were at Tailgate Village which is a really scaled down version of Ballpark Village in St. Louis. The place was packed so we got a beer and walked around trying to find them. We finally got together and had a beer together but mine and the Glue's were warm and we ended up throwing most of it away. It was then time to make our way into Lambeau so we found our section and started up to row 57. Wow, the steps were big and it just about took all I had to make it up only to find out there was a ramp a couple rows above us. The Packers came out dominating but couldn't put any points on the board. Rodgers threw a rare interception which was controversial in that it was returned for a touchdown but called back for clipping and there was also a personal foul on the seahawks. From where I was sitting it looked like a block in the back but on replay it looked dubious. I also thought that the seahawk player had thrown a punch but replay didn't show it. It looked like a 0-0 tie at half until the Packer coach called a couple time outs at the end trying to get the ball back. Rodgers threw a rare interception which was controversial in that it was returned for a touchdown but called back for clipping and there was also a personal foul on the seahawks. It didn't work as the seahawks completed a couple passes and would up with a field goal. The Packers got a early turnover inside the seahawk 10 yard line and punched it in for the score. The Packers got another TD when Rodgers got the seahawks to jump and completed a long pass to Nelson. The Packers got a FG and the seahawks kicked two and that was the end of the scoring. We headed back to car and had a beer to let the traffic clear out but it was still jammed up. We were tired and headed back to the hotel and walked next door to Arbys for something to eat, not what I wanted but it was convenient. The next morning we got up fairly early and got on the road after getting gas and a few more six packs of Wisconsin beer since they can sell at 6am even on Sundays. I made a mistake in the route but we were able to find an alternate that was even better and the 8+ hour drive was uneventful. The Packers, Lambeau, opening day what more needs to be said. I forgot that on Friday we also went to Shopko and Kohls to look for Packer stuff.
On our way to Green Bay Saturday we stopped at a Walmart and looked for more Packer stuff and also started stocking up on beer to take home. We then went to Titletown Brewery which is real nice. We had some more wings there which were good and actually looked like they came from a chicken. From there we walked across the street to Copper State Brewery which was ok. We walked back across to Titletown's tap room which is across the street from the restaurant place. We didn't have anything just looked for souvenirs. Then it was on to Leatherhead Brewery which was enjoyable. We then went to Badger State Brewery which was nice. At Leatherhead a local couple told us about a place a little ways down the street that had real good butter burgers so we headed down that way. The place is called the Drift Inn and for some reason they are closed on Saturday, who ever heard of a bar being closed on Saturday? Luckily there was a place across the street which I believe was called Replay Sports Bar and Grill. It was a fun time to and we didn't have to pay for our drinks. We got to talking a little with the bar maid and she asked if we wanted to play bar dice for our drinks. Loser had to buy three drinks. I still don't understand the game really but the Glue was out first and didn't have to pay. Me and the bar maid split the first two rounds and then I won the third and she bought for us. People at the bar told us about another bar just down the way so we headed to Sidekicks which was real nice. Two of the waitresses weren't very friendly but the other one was real nice and turned out to be the owners daughter. She brought us each a small bowl of booyah which were real good. She also gave us a couple glasses to take home. At this point it was time to head back to Kaukauna and get some supper. We had a recommendation to try K Town Bar so we went there and ordered some chicken to go. The poor waitress/cook was working her butt off so I was very leary of the chicken. We had to wait for a beer or town but when we got back to the hotel the chicken was very very good. Next up is game day. Me and the Glue went up to Green Bay last Thursday for short vacation and of course to take in a Packer game at Lambeau Field. The Glue reconnected with a high school classmate whose brother in law has season tickets and she arranged to get a couple of them for opening day. See the Packers on opening day in Lambeau has been my #1 bucket list item for quite some time.
We left Murphysboro early Thursday morning and arrived in Kaukauna where we staying late afternoon. After a little discussion we decided to go to Starview Supper Club a few miles from the hotel. We shared a ribeye which was just ok and some broasted chicken which was real good. Some people at the bar directed us to the Lazy Dog sports bar where we finished off the night with a couple of pitchers and some good local information. On Friday we headed up to Green Bay which was about a 20 minute drive and went straight to Lambeau and the Packer Pro Shop. I couple have spent $1000's in there. We also looked around the Lambeau Atrium and stopped in 1919 Kitchen and Tap for a beer. Nice place but costly. We then hit some breweries/bars around the stadium. Hinterland brewery was ok but was loud and seemed more geared toward being a restaurant. Anduzzi's sports bar was really nice and we had some wings which were good but were so small they may have been pigeon wings, at least we got all flats. We walked across the street to The Bar which was just ok and then to Stadium View which was nice. We drove a couple blocks to Green Bay distillery which was nice. At this point it was time to head back to Kaukauna where we stopped at Lazy Dog for a couple beers and a pizza to take back to the hotel which was very good. In the first game we played Bocce-licous. We played our first game this season on the new court while they've played almost all theirs on it. The game was close for a little bit but then we pulled away and won 9-5.
In the second game we played 2 Boobs and 2 Girls and like the first game it was close at the start and then we pulled away for a 9-3 win. At the halfway mark we're 8-0 and still haven't played our best yet. On Wednesday the Roll'em crew took on #thankusforyourwin and Feeder of the Pack in week three of the fall season.
In the first game Roll'em jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before allowing the #'s to get on the board. The 5-0 game quickly became a 7-5 game with Roll'em still with the lead but with Roll'em feeling the pressure. Fortunately the Glue came through with a close one and the #'s couldn't get very close and then the Glue came through with the game winner. In the second game Roll'em again jumped out to a quick lead but this time Feeder was unable to mount a comeback as Rolll'em cruised to a 9-3 victory or Everett Orange Hands and his Feeder teammates. With the two victories Roll'em now has more wins than last season however we again didn't throw overly well and will have to pick it up as the season moves along. |
