Yesterday was my birthday so I can no longer get my kicks on age 66. What can you say about a birthday that starts out with a dentist appointment? At least it was just a checkup there weren't any cavities. After that was a trip to Walmart and the beer store. Not that exciting, right. I'm past exciting birthdays. We had Dax yesterday so that eliminated going anywhere. I picked up a couple ribeyes and grilled them while Lisa fixed green beans and glazed carrots. Worst part was Dax fell just before Bailey came to pick him up and got a bloody lip.
66 was a great year for me. Most of that was due to the herniated lung/rib issue back in April and May. This didn't allow me to golf all summer then when I tried in fall my back flared up. Then it flared up last week again. Covid made it's appearance as did a couple squamous skin cancer spots. Maybe I didn't get my kicks on age 66 but got kicked by age 66.

This weekend is Memorial Day, the traditional kickoff to summer. For 20+ years we had a pontoon boat out on Kinkaid Lake and this was one of the three big weekends along with 4th of July and Labor Day. For years our weekends were spent out on the lake along with our kids and friends who came out with us or had boats of their own. For some reason the beer and food always tasted better and the music sounded better on the lake. The work plus cost became greater than the fun for me so I don't miss having a boat. The Glue still misses it on occasion though. One thing I miss is at the end of long day on the lake is coming in to the Marina with this song playing on our stereo. Another thing I miss is when most people were off the lake and the sun started dipping behind the trees and hills are the lake. Some spectacular sunsets. This is my favorite: For some reason it's always stood out to me the way the red of the sun combined with the shape of the clouds. These are just a few more of the sunset pictures I have from out on the lake: And one more that was taken on the way in to the marina probably with the aforementioned song playing. Perfect timing as our Packer windsock happened to blow into the picture just as it was taken.
