I mainly write this blog because it helps me remember the places we go, what we had and how we liked it. Because of this I don't always write about local places but when the occasion calls for it I do and yesterdays trip to 17th St. calls for it.
We both got the 17th St. amber which is hit and miss with the Glue but yesterday she was liking it. I knew before we went I was getting either a burger or their lotta bull and fries. I finally decided on the lotta bull but wasn't going to get fries until the waitress said they're really good so I thought what the hell and got them. The Glue got one her favorites, the bbq nachos. When the food arrived the waitress apologized and said there were more fries on the way. I tried the fries that were there and they were good but once the fresh ones arrived they were the best I've had in a while. They've changed the bun on the lotta bull and it seemed to hold up better than what I remember from the last time I had it. The Glue said her bbq nachos were good and it was very big with a lot of pork on it. She also had some fries and said they were really good. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷

Yesterday we decided to pick up from New Kahala only to discover they weren't open on Tuesdays. We went to our backup choice Bottom's Up but discovered they weren't open on Tuesdays either. This led us to our final choice Brunzeez in Ava since we really didn't want to go very far. We both ordered 4 piece all white fried chicken and salads. The Glue got mashed potatoes and I got onion rings.
The salads were my style of side salad and were real good. It took a while for the fried chicken but the menu said it was a thirty minute wait. Once it got there is was nice and hot and very good. The Glue's mashed potatoes were solid but my onion rings were just average. I should've known when the waitress said they were one of the few things not made on site although she said they were delicious. We've been on a good fried chicken roll with Lisa's, Broadway Bayou and now this but I think the other two are better. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 Yesterday we went to a couple of long time Carbondale legends, Quatros and PK's. We hadn't eaten at Quatros in a while because I'd got a sort of burned out on it. It's been our go to pizza and beer place for a long time.
We ordered our standard meateaters deep pan pizza and a pitcher of Amberbock. After taking the time off the pizza tasted really good. I miss the 99 cent pitchers though. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 We left there and made a rare stop at PK's for a beer, mainly to see if our old buddy and teammate Red was there. No surprise, he was as he is most days he is in town. We had a good time remembering and Gordon was with him who we've known through Red and Stang back in the softball days. PK's has more draft selections than I remember from the last time we were there and we both opted for Busch Bavarian drafts. It's been a busy couple weeks and after yet another trip to the Verizon store we decided a nice little trip would be nice. After eliminating several other options we were down to Kretzers and Broadway Bayou. We were on our way up 127 when I finally said Broadway Bayou since it was more back roads than 127. I didn't want to take a chance on the holiday traffic being bad.
We got to Sparta a little after 1pm and the place was the most crowded we'd ever seen plus there was a teachers party going on downstairs. Broadway Grille now Broadway Bayou has been a favorite for a few years but usually it's because they have cajun food. This time we both branched out with the Glue getting a whole chicken all white, mashed potatoes and a salad. I got catfish with onion rings and a salad. I requested the catfish to be cut in strips or chunked. They don't have draft beer but they do have Amberbock and some very cold glasses. The food took a little longer than normal but nothing outrageous. The salads were nice size salads and my body really needed some greens. The fish wasn't cut up but was still very good and the onion rings were also. The Glues chicken was outstanding, very crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Where else can you get four breasts and four wings for $13? Her mashed potatoes were good but not enough gravy for her so they brought her some more. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 We stopped by Brews Brothers for one on our way home and had a very nice conversations with some other people who are excited about the direction Murphysboro is heading. After two tornado sirens, a scared dog and multiple kid crying episodes I was tired yesterday morning. I went over to Verizon to exchange my phone and get a screen shield put on the Glue's. Once the guy realized I wasn't buying anything he said they couldn't guarantee putting the shield on because it wasn't sold there even though it was bought at verizon.com. He then said to wait for a sales rep. While I was waiting the salesman the guy helped the next customer who was buying something. It didn't set well with me and got me a little pissy.
I got home and called Verizon and the guy was very helpful and I got things worked out (hopefully) but it didn't help my pissyness. By the time the Glue got home from her sacred nail appointment I was still pissy and when I told her she said how about we go somewhere and eat and have a beer. That sounded like a great idea but if you've tried to find a place to eat on Monday around here you know how hard it is. We settled on Logan's since we'd had a good experience there a couple months ago. We both got big Blue Moon drafts and the Glue got fried chicken breast with gravy on the side with mashed potatoes and a side salad. I got fried catfish with mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples. The salad got there fast and was good. My stuff got there before we could finish the salad but the Glue's was a few minutes later. My fish wasn't very good at all. The mashed potatoes were ok but could have been warmer while the apples were good. The Glue's chicken was good but nowhere close to Lisa's from a couple days ago. My meal 🍺 The Glue's meal 🍺🍺🍺 The beer and food did get me out of my pissyness though. The Glue had to stand outside and ring bells yesterday and was still cold when she got home. She wanted something hot and hardy and she decided on Lisa's in Prairie Du Rocher for fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
It's a great drive up Route 3 and for some reason it seemed faster than normal yesterday. I toyed with getting catfish but we decided to split 1/2 chicken all white meat and mashed potatoes. I debated beer batter fries or american fries so I asked the waitress which she liked and she said beer batter fries. We both ordered draft Boulevard Nutcracker ale. There were more people in the place than we'd seen before. One guy seemed to be having a lot of fun and we talked to the group when they were leaving exchanging places to go. When the chicken arrived it was too hot to eat but once it cooled a little it was excellent, moist and juicy with a really good crusty skin. The mashed potatoes were mashed potatoes, nothing special but solid. The Glue didn't care for the fries but I thought they were all right but should have ordered the american fries. We both really liked the Nutcracker Ale and Lisa had two but I only had one when I found out it was 7.8% abv. I was also surprised to find out that it was 38 ibu's which is higher than I normally care for. The chicken really carried this meal 🍺🍺🍺🍺 When we got back to Murphysboro we stooped in to Molly's Pint for a quick Irish Red which is probably my favorite there. |
