We really needed to do work around the house on Sunday but I was tired after golf so after mowing the front yard we took the freedom tops off the jeep and went for a ride up through LaRue Pine Hills. After that we made a stop at Bottom's Up for some grub.
We timed it perfect, just after we'd ordered a big group came in. We split a 1/2 fried chicken with a salad and chips. Maybe we were both hungry but it tasted excellent, better than usual down there and that's saying something. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 After we left we took a ride on the levi, don't think I'd been on that part of it since I was young. It was a great day for a ride like we took.

I had to get an eyeball shot on Friday (yes it sucks) in Harrisburg. On the way back I had to pick up my Durango from Wards who had replaced my radio that had crapped out. After a little time to recover from the shot we decided to go to Broadway Bayou.
We hadn't been there in a while and I'd been craving etouffee lately so naturally I ordered etouffee. The Glue surprised me and ordered BBQ shrimp instead of fried chicken. I think they changed the recipe for the rice in both dishes. I don't remember it being "cajun" rice in the past. Both dishes were very good and there was plenty to bring home some leftovers. Both dishes are served with a piece of cornbread that has some sweetness to it. The cornbread wasn't heated at all and the Glue didn't care for that but it didn't bother me. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 On the way back we decided to stop in at Bricktown Seafood and Meat where we'd gotten some cajun mixes previously. We got a big surprise when we found out it was now a restaurant. It's owned by the former owners of Broadway Grille so they may be added cajun dishes in the future. Yesterday morning we made a trip to Sam's to pick up a load of flooring to redo our bedroom. Afterwards we decided to go somewhere to eat. We finally decided on St Nicolas MDH over Broadway Bayou partly so I could see if they were displaying my bicycle I'd donated. St Nicolas MDH is the new place in the Murdale Airport. The MDH comes from the airports abbreviation KMDH.
We got there around 1:30 and there were plenty of seats but I don't think there would have been during lunch hour. I asked our waitress about a couple beers and she said she wasn't old enough to drink but would ask. We both ended up getting the Wee Heavy that is really good but 8% abv. I ordered the $100 dollar burger mainly because I'd never had wagyu beef. I was unsure about the pub cheese so I got it on the side. I got chips and salsa as my side. The Glue ordered south bound grilled cheese with fries. Dumb me didn't think about the chips being tortilla chips even with it saying "and salsa" but they were good and so was the salsa. I'm really glad I got the pub cheese on the side, I wasn't a big fan. The burger was really good and very big, maybe too big. One patty and a lower price would be fine with me. I really didn't notice much difference in wagyu and regular burger. The Glue's grilled cheese was also good and the fries were a lot better than the chips and salsa. Even though I could see she didn't seem to have done much waitressing our waitress did a real good job. My old bike wasn't displayed but it was in rough shape when I donated it. The interior is really nice and the booths were comfortable. I wish they had another beer we liked that isn't 8%, that's too high for me. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 Bring back Kaskaskia Copper With the Glue on vacation at Gulf Shores I decided to pick up New China for the first time in a while. Their lo mein is my favorite in the area but I decided to get beef in garlic sauce with extra vegetables.
I called it in on my way home from Ava (I was stopped) and it was almost ready when I got there. Surprisingly they are still in covid shutdown with plastic so there is almost no contact with each other. I'm doubting they will ever reopen on the inside, not a big deal to us. The beef was somewhat lacking, I should have gone with my first thought of just getting all vegetable. The rice was okay, nothing special but it's just rice. The sauce and veggies were great and they put a lot of veggies in the container. There was enough of the dish and it was good enough that I had it again the next day. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 (held back by the beef) By virtue of our second place finish Roll'em got a first round bye. This generally isn't an advantage because the team you play has already played a game. With the Glue on her annual girls trip Danny once again subbed for us.
In the first game we played long time foe Muddy Rollers. They got off to a 4-0 lead but we quickly tied it with a four point frame. From then on Roll'em took control and went on to advance with a 9-6 win. In the second game we played Dark Side of the Pallino with DRip and Micah subbing for them. They started out with a 2-0 lead but we once again got a four point frame to take the lead. They score three to take the lead and it went like this until the score was 7-7, They put a ball close and we tried a hit but missed. My next ball was right where I wanted and moved the pallino but they were still in. They still had two balls and their first throw wasn't what they wanted but was good enough to win. That ends our Spring season plus we will be taking the summer season off mainly due to the grandtwins playing tee ball most Tuesday and Thursdays. We had some of the Glue's California family in for 10 days so it's been rather hectic around here. Anyway the day before they left we went to check out some local establishments.
Some of them had spent the night in the Alto Pass area so we met up with them at Von Jakobs. I had a Munich Dunkel and the Glue had a red ale, both were disappointing. This is the second disappointing visit since the ownership changed and it will be a while before we try there again. We then went to Sesser to eat at the Mill. We hadn't been there in a while and the Cali people wanted to check out Pheasant Hollow so the Mill was a natural. We decided to split an order of fried okra and a fried chicken salad with balsamic dressing. The okra was good and the salad tasted awesome. I was a little afraid my body would reject the salad since we'd been running on meat and potato type food for the Cali family visit. It didn't and the dressing was very good. Of course having Shiner Bock on tap is always a good thing. Next up was Pheasant Hollow and a couple of Drunken Piper Scottish Ales from Baum's Brauhaus in Waltonville Il.. The Glue got a slushy that was real good. I got a growler of Drunken Piper but it just didn't taste the same the next day. We finished up at Route 51 brewery and we both got an amber ale or two and then it was time for a very tired me to head home. The Glue left for five days and I'm ready for some down time. Hot and muggy arrived with a vengeance yesterday for the last regular season week of the Spring season.
In the first game we played Boccelism in a battle of second place teams. We got unlucky and drew the third court. We had very little chance of catching Holy Ballz but they did. Wow, what a game. Roll after roll of great shots. The game started out exchanging one point frames with the score 3-2 they got a couple two point frames to take a 6-3 lead. This is what happened the first time we played them and we couldn't recover. This time we clawed our way back to take a 7-6 lead. They tied it 7-7. They had a ball close but Herbster got inside of them but it rolled back a fraction. After a measurement our ball was still in. Their next ball was close but after another measurement we were still in and they were out of balls. On our last ball it managed to nudge their two balls enough to get two points and a win. In the second game, once again on the third court, we played Bocce-licious. They started out great and we were quickly down 5-0. We woke up and started playing and went on a 6-1 run to tie the game at 6-6. This time it was the girls turn to close it out. The Glue got one about two feet away and they couldn't get inside it. The Glue then got another one in and Clutch got the third point on a throw she thought was off. After a slow start we finished the Spring season 12-4 and barring something unforeseen we finished it 2nd place. |
