It was much warmer than week 1 but it was rainy and very wet, hopefully we won't have any of those real cold games again. We played without Clutch who was out with a foot injury. Danny didn't want to play because of weather and Ted is recovering from knee replacement so we decided to play with three and rotate.
In the first game we took on Dark Side of the pallino. We built up a nice 6-1 before and we were sitting with two points went I hit their balls and moved them just enough to give them two points. Just like that our cushion was gone but we got scored the last three points to win 9-3. We moved from the first court to the third court to play our second game against Mission Imbocceball. If I remember right they scored the first point and we strung together a series of one point frames with an occasional two point frame to win 9-1 in a mini marathon game. Herbster and the Glue threw very well all night and I finally found my stroke towards the end of the first game.

Roll'em If Ya Got'em opened up 2022 spring season on a cold, windy and all around crappy night.
In the first game we played Holy Ballz on the third court. The game started out but we couldn't make very many throws after that and lost 9-4. In the second game we took on Bocce and Brews. Once again the game started out close until we put a four point frame on the board and went on to win 9-5. Hopefully we won't have any more nights with such crappy weather. Once again the Grumpy Shillelaghs took the court to play in the annual St. Patricks day tournament. Fred wanted to play as part of the Grumpy Shillelaghs and Clutch didn't want to so the team worked out really well.
In the first game we took on the Elks on the 3rd court which rolled better than normal but still was inconsistent. We jumped out early and then it was back and forth for a bit. We held a 7-4 lead but couldn't finish and lost 9-7. After sitting out for quite a while we played the second game on the first court against the Punishers who had just finished playing their game on the same court. We were never in the game and ended up losing 9-4 which ended any hopes we had of advancing. In our last game we played the Pin Oak on the third court where they'd just finished playing. We played them even for a while but couldn't sustain it and once again lost 9-4. Very disappointing day especially except for the Glue's Irish Stew which was once again very good. We ate at Joe's Pizza in Herrin yesterday so I decided to put out my opinion on the best pizza in the area.
Best - Quatros, long been my favorite pizza in the area. The Gold Standard of pizza. Best thin - Cummares, at times it has been close to Quatros. others - IV's went there a lot in high school Best chicago style - Joe's Pizza in Herrin, others - Sinisi's, might take over the top spot with another visit of two. Delivery - Martells only because I'm a little burned out of Whiffleboys. others - Whiffleboys, kind of burned out Casey's, hadn't had it in years but really good and different I'm not sure I've had too many bad pizzas and there are a lot of good pizza places in the area so I'm sure I missed a couple. We went back up to Gabby's to check out their Sunday fried chicken dinner special. We got there and old boating friends BBJ and Tina happened to be there. They were there with the owners ex-wife and invited us to sit with them. Later the owner also joined us.
We both got fried chicken with mashed potatoes. I got baked beans and the Glue got a salad. The food arrived exceptionally fast so I'm sure it wasn't cooked to order. The Glue's salad was good and so were the mashed potatoes. My baked beans were real good excepting the big beans (lima) that were in it, I don't like them. My chicken was very ho-hum, not very hot and just plain disappointing. The Glue said hers was good and everyone else was talking about how good it was so I figured they were being polite. Afterwards we took a short drive around the area before heading home. When we were home I tried the Glue's leftover chicken and I couldn't believe the difference, hers was very good even after sitting for a couple hours. Explains why everyone was raving about how good it was but don't understand how mine was so much different. 🍺🍺🍺 (really hurt by my chicken and helped by the Glue's) Taqueria Jimenez has been parked uptown for several days. We'd heard good things about so we gave it a try yesterday. They didn't have a menu online so I went there and took a picture for the Glue to decide what she wanted.
She went with the barria taco plate and I went with the asada taco plate but got double rice instead of beans. I also got a tamale and a order of chips and salsa. The people there were very appreciative of my business and thanked me several times. It took about 10 minutes of my food to get ready. As I was walking away I asked about the chips and they had forgotten so they fixed some up. When I got home I found out they'd forgot the salsa. The sides of rice and beans were tiny, not anywhere close to the $4 or $5 extra for them. The tamale was okay but mostly masa with a very small middle. The asada was tough and the Glue said her barria was too. Sad to say the best thing were the chips. Very disappointing for a place we'd heard so much good about. 🍺🍺 It's been a very busy but enjoyable last couple weeks. The Glue's brother was in town with his girlfriend and for a short time her cousin. I had a blast but am exhausted, I'm not used to that pace anymore.
One the way up to the airport we stopped at Scootr's to grab a bite and relax before the trip into St. Louis. I went up planning on ordering a reuben but at the last minute I got a ribeye sandwich instead. The Glue got wings since the chicken was so good the last time. Her brother Mike ordered pulled pork since they don't have really good BBQ in his area. His girlfriend Debbie ordered the reuben and when the waitress said good choice I should have changed my order. The ribeye sandwich was ok but not as good as I'd hoped. The Glue's wings were very disappointing, seemed like they needed a little more cooking time. Mike said his pulled pork was good, Debbie's reuben looked real good and she really liked it. We all agreed the chips were just okay but nothing special. 🍺🍺 (saved by Debbie's reuben) |
