We were on our way up to Gabby's yesterday when I happened to think of the Scuttle Inn so we decided to give it a try. The only time I was there was a quite a while ago and I don't remember the inside being much of anything but they've done an awesome job of remodeling so that's it's really nice inside. The didn't have any draft beer and the canned selection was very limited, they didn't even have Stag. This may because it's the off season for golf.
We got there mid afternoon and they were still on their lunch menu which is limited but has some nice choices. I got the double Scuttle burger fully dressed and it came with fries. I asked that the burger be cooked medium to medium well, I also asked for mozzerella cheese. The Glue got a strawberry salad and shrimp creole. The burger was big and very sloppy. It was cooked more towards well done but still was very good. Overall it was a really nice burger. The fries were seasoned nicely and crisp. The Glue's salad was really good but the star was the shrimp creole, it was awesome. The Glue was close to using the shrimp tails to dip the remaining creole juice. This turned out to be a really great choice and the Glue is already thinking about when we could come back. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

The 2022 bocce season got with the MBC's annual meeting as usual the main topic being election of the new board. According to one person's count there were 35 people present, more than usual but still not enough considering the size of our club. There were four people not running for re-election: Brad, Jay, Bruce and Garrett. These four will be missed and the new members have big shoes to fill. Instead of the normal 7 or 8 candidates there were 12 this year. I had some very hard choices to make with several people I thought would be good board members. The three returning candidates were all re-elected: Gene, Mike and Sandy. Also elected were Rikki, Danny and after a year layoff Ian. The last spot ended in tie between Billy and Micah, both good candidates. They decided on a coin flip with the winner getting to break the tie. Micah won the flip but chose Billy for the spot.
I have not yet heard who is the new president. The new board will definitely have a new feel to it with three long time members exiting and will have their work cut out for them. Good luck Yesterday was National Pizza Day so pizza was a must plus we'd seen a couple shows that featured pizza. We recently found out that two pizza places in Anna Jonesboro have beer that I previously didn't think had it. Sinisi's on Main put out a pizza day special, chicago style with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. It looked really good so we decided to head down there.
When we got there it's a small place with tables in the front and a bar in back with a table there too. We were going to sit in the bar area but it was awkward so we went back up front. The beer selection is limited to big brewery choices so we both picked an Ultra. I went back to order the pizza and was told they only had it on weekends. When I said they had it online for today I was told they had ran out. I was going to pay for the beer and walk down the street to Pizza Villa when another lady walked up and said they could fix one if we wanted to wait 30 minutes which wasn't a problem for us. When the pizza got there it was served in a to go box and a couple paper plates. I said something about silverware and the lady said it was on a table. It turned out to be plastic and that made it very hard to cut pizza. I know, pizza is supposed to be picked up but with thicker pizza I like to cut up some before picking it up. The pizza was fresh out of the over so it was nice and hot. There were a lot of each ingredient but it had chunks of tomato in the sauce. I seem to remember Quatros have this back when they started. I really like the pizza, it had a different flavor and texture than others in the area. The Glue liked it but would rather have plain sauce. One of the people working there said that their silverware and plates would get stolen so they went to paper and plastic. They also were down to one spatula because of them being stolen. Very sad. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 (would be higher if they had plates, silverware and a better beer selection) Afterwards we went to Midtown Pub to see what it was like. We were the only people there. The owner came in shortly after we left and he was enjoyable to talk to. Apparently they have bands later on. They used to have food but quit during the covid crap. I wanted to go somewhere yesterday and decided on Route 51 brewery mainly because they had some pork belly specials. When we got there we ran into Dan and Chris and had they invited us to sit with them.
They Glue got an amber ale and I got a brown ale but both were very good. I was dead set on getting a pork belly sandwich or tacos but Dan had a philly cheesesteak that looked really good. The Glue got pork belly tacos and I got a cheesesteak but had them put swiss cheese instead of the regular cheese stuff. While we waited we compared places we've been with Dan and Chris and got a few new ones to try. The cheesesteak was good with plenty of meat and not overwhelmed with cheese which is how I like it. The fries were on point. The Glue's pork belly tacos were very good and I should have stuck with my plan, oh well. After Dan and Chris left there was a table full of Packer fans so I went over and talked briefly with them. Wouldn't you know it, for once I didn't have on a Packer shirt, one of the reasons I normally have one on. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 We stopped at Big Muddy on the way home and a childhood neighbor came in to visit her husband who was tending bar. We had a nice time with both of them and then the Packer fans from Route 51 came in so I talked with them some more and also Nate who we met on the lake years ago. A really nice day. I had a doctors appointment yesterday morning. The Glue went with me so we could grab something to eat afterwards. The appointment got over faster than we expected and even thought it was noonish it was too early for us to have a big meal so we decided on an appetizer and a beer somewhere.
After discarding several places we decided on El Paisano mainly because I hadn't been to their new place yet. Upon arrival they brought out chips and salsa. We both got mugs of Dos XX and decided to split a steak quesadilla. The Glue also ordered pico de gallo to put on her quesadilla. The chips and salsa were really good, better than what I remembered from the old place. The beer was nice and cold and so were the mugs. The quesadilla was very good and is probably my new go to when going there. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 I'm going to start doing a best of series. I'm going to start off with an easy one, my favorite rueben. Granted I don't get rueben's very often when we're out but I do really like them.
#1 - Katy O'ferrells, I just had this for the first time a couple weeks ago and really loved it. The corned beef was great and there was plenty of it. The dressing and sauerkraut didn't over when it. All in all a really good sandwich and the best I've probably ever had. Others in no particular order: Quatro's, this had been my favorite prior to the one at Katy O'ferrels. Another well balanced sandwich but could use a tad more corned beef. 17th St., not a traditional rueben. It uses smoked pastrami and smoked cheddar instead of corned beef and swiss but still a decent sandwich. Once again a little more pastrami would help. Update 2/23/22: Gabby's on Main, good sandwich but the corned beef was in pieces and it made the sandwich really messy. I'd love to get some comments and recommendations. thanks. |
