Friday we went to Middies for a bite. They had Sam Adams Octoberfest on tap which may be my favorite Octoberfest so we ordered a pitcher of it.
I ordered my go to, catfish with beans and slaw. The Glue ordered poppers and hot wings. On Fridays they cut the catfish in strips which I like a lot better than the whole filet. The catfish was very good as always, maybe my favorite in the area. The beans were really good too, probably my favorite in the area. The slaw was good as always. The Glue said her poppers and wings were good but she should have ordered something else. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷

In the first game we took on long time rivals Muddy Rollers. After a slow start we got hot and moved out to a 7-3 lead but we got stuck on 7 for too long. They kept getting the point and suddenly it was 7-7. We had a ball in and I had two game point throws but the first went a little long and the second was just short. They got two in the next frame and we lost 9-8.
In the second game we played Dark Side of the Pallino. This time they jumped out to a big 7-2 lead and we kept coming back finally and moved even at 7-7. It wasn't to be though as they got the last two points to give us a 9-7 loss. Tough night but two exciting games. We went over to BBJ's house on Sunday, we hadn't seen him in a while and he had made a pork butt I wanted to try. His aquatic center at his new house is coming along nicely and will be very nice when it's all done. After talking with him for a couple hours we'd thought about stopping somewhere for something to eat but decided to pick something up instead.
We'd done New Kahala a lot recently and there isn't a lot of late Sunday afternoon options on the way home. We finally decided on Subway. I haven't been there in several years and even though it's a chain it's still a Murphy business. We both decided on the supreme meat sandwich on Italian herb and cheese bread. The Glue got a 6" with jalapenos and mayo added while I got a 12" with pickles added and oregano sprinkled on. We both ordered no tomatoes and had salt and pepper added. It was shockingly good. There was a lot more meat on the sandwich than I ever remember Subway having on it. I was very surprised and pleased with the choice. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 Me, the Glue, Fred and Cathy once again teamed as up S&M to play in the For Pete's Sake tournament honoring long time club member Peter who passed away a couple years ago.
In the first game of our pool we played the Ringers, one of my favorite teams to play. The game didn't start well for S&M and we were soon down 5-0 before we got started. We managed to come back to a 7-6 deficient but that was it and we lost 9-6. In the second game we played players from Love Is a Boccefield and others. We started the game down 2-0 when they got two balls inside a close one of ours. It didn't look good with that start but we got hot and won 9-2. I can't remember the team we played last, there were a lot of different team names and people playing. We jumped on them pretty good and while I don't remember the score it wasn't close and we were able to advance out of pool play. In the round of 8 played the defending champions Pin Oak all of whom are really good players. They got off to a 2-0 lead but we scored 6 straight points. They then rolled off 6 straight points and an 8-6 lead. Fred put a nice ball close to the pallino so they tried a knock. It was spot on but the pallino ended up on the back with our ball about 6 inches in front. They had one ball left and made a great shot to get inside of ours. On our last ball Fred made a really good shot but fortune wasn't smiling on us and the balls rattled around with them still be the closest. Pin Oak ended up repeating by beating the Ringers in the championship. The Glue had gotten a buy one get one free deal for a $25 at T Street so we decided to go there last night. It's been one of our go to's but we hadn't been there in a while mainly because of not wanting to wait until 4pm when it opens.
We got there a little later than I wanted and the place was starting to fill up but there were still plenty of tables left. The waitress that took our drink order wasn't sure what all the drafts were so we decided on Shiner Bock. I'd forgotten they had a larger size of mug and the waitress didn't ask so we just got the regular 16oz glass. We decided to split the surf and turf special which is a 16oz ribeye with shrimp on top. We opted for fried shrimp and had the ribeye fixed medium with montreal seasoning on it. For sides we got a side salad and onion rings plus we got an order of fried mushrooms. The salads there are always good but I think they've cut down the size of the side salad but it was still big enough for us to share. The house dressing is tasty. The rest of the order got there quickly. The steak was a little overdone and fatty but nothing terrible. The flavor was very good. The onion rings were good but nothing special and the same goes for the mushrooms. Splitting orders seems to work very well for us. Overall nothing really stood out but everything was good. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 In the first game we got a forfeit victory over the Usual Suspects. I'd have rather played the game but it happens. It did put us a little behind our opponent in the next game since they would have already played a game.
In the second game we played Bertha's Ball Handlers on the middle court. We started the game out with a three point frame. The followed with a two point frame. We followed up with a single and another three point frame for a 7-2 lead. Then disaster struck and we gave up four points which made the score 7-6. The next frame they had two points showing with game point in their hands but their last throw move the point ball and pallino just enough to knock them out of one point and suddenly the game was tied. The next throw they had two more chances at game point but couldn't covert. With the ball close to the wall our second throw was good enough for them to use all their balls before they could get close. Our third throw moved both of their closest balls and stayed close enough to the pallino to give us two points and a 9-8 win. It was great seeing a long time friend Travis there who is battling some health issues. Roll'em kicked off our Fall season last Wednesday without the Herbster who had to work at his new job so we turned once again to Danny to sub for us.
In the first game we played Drinking Team with a Bocce Problem on the dreaded third court. The game started close but we made a couple good throws and gradually pulled out a 9-4 win. In the second game we moved to the second court and played No Beer, No Bocce. Once again the game started out close and was tied at 3-3 when we gave up a four point frame and were down 7-3. I told Bake let's just get two or three and then go from there. Lo and behold we got two and then a couple more to move to 7-7. We got a close one and they didn't have anything within four feet but we underthrew our last three balls and the score was 8-7. I thought that missing those throws would bite us in the butt. Our next ball wasn't overly close but they couldn't beat it and we walked away with a 9-7 win. We've had a busy several days so we decided to go down to Anna Jonesboro and try the thin pizza at Sinisi's. We wanted a quick trip so we called ahead and were told it would be around 45 minutes. We were only about 20 minutes away so we'd have a little wait once we got there.
We ordered a couple beers when we got there and the cook said perfect timing and handed us our pizza. We'd gotten a pepperoni, mushroom and garlic pizza. Once again we'd forgotten our own silverware and had to use the plastic ones there. I know pizza is to be picked up not ate with a fork but a good knife would have been helpful. The pizza was good but I like the thick better. The Glue liked the thin better mainly because there was more sauce. Both styles have a little different flavor than any other place around so it's a nice change of pace pizza. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 We went to Broadway Bayou a few days ago. It's one of our go to's when we want a little ride and a lot of options.
We got there and I had to track someone down to wait on us. We decided to split fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a salad. After a while I finally got the waitresses attention and asked about our salad. Her response was it will come out when it's ready. Oddly enough it was suddenly ready. To say the waitress was inattentive would be an understatement. The chicken got there and it looked overdone but was good but not as good as normal. The mashed potatoes however were really good as was the salad. The waitress got better when two more groups came in but the damage was done. 🍺🍺🍷 (mainly because of the service) Even though Roll'em If Ya Got'em decided to take the summer off I ended up subbing almost every week for Brick Dust Blues. When the tournament rolled around their other team, Can't Be Trusted, needed a player so I played for them.
In the first game we played the Punishers. What a game. It went back and forth but we finally opened up a lead only to let them tie it at 8-8. We got lucky when Kenny's last ball went off another ball and got in for the game winner. In the second game we played No Beer, No Bocce, a team I was not familiar with. They keep it close enough to give us a scare but we closed them out with a 9-5 win. In the last pool game we played Rikki Rick and the Funky Bunch. Rick is an old classmate of mine and Rikki is his daughter. The Funky Bunch is Ricks other daughter Sunshine and rounding out the team is Tim Tim who used to run around with our son. The first two games were on the third court but we moved to the first court for this one. We got out early and kept going for a 9-4 win. In the first round of the playoffs we met Holly Ballz. Fred had played with Boro City Rollers and they had CJ playing for them instead. Any throw I made somehow Jann got inside of me no matter how far away. We got a hard fought 9-6 win that was closer than the score. In the second round we played Big Muddy Monsters. This was the one game we threw pretty well and we walked away with a 9-0 win to advance to the finals In an oddity the other semi final game was also a 9-0 game with the Punishers beating the Ringers. In a repeat of our first game of the day we played the Punishers for the league tournament championship. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead but we answered and they game went back and forth before reaching 8-8 once again. It took us three balls before we got in their first throw so Pete went for the knock but was wide right. His next shot will be remember for a long time. He once again went for the knock and as he was continuing his normal run down the court he caught his toe and went for a tumble. The throw missed once and and when their last throw didn't get in we were the Champions. Thanks to Can't Be Trusted for the opportunity. Also thanks to Danny, Jean and especially Kenny for carrying me all day. |
