Yesterday Lisa was going with Bailey and her herd to Cape so the kids could see an ENT. I had an early doctors appoint but before I left Lisa texted me that the appointments were all cancelled so we decided on breakfast after my appointment.
Mondays are slim pickings for restaurants, if the weather was better we would have tried Turners Table but it came down to Harbaughs or Sunny Street Cafe. I'd been to Harbaughs a couple times recently so we went to Sunny Street. When we walked in there was my classmate and barber Barb so we sat across from her and her sister and talked about a variety of things but some of it I couldn't hear. I wanted to try something besides corned beef hash I usually get there so I went with a sausage and mushroom omelet with a side of B&G and a fruit cup. Lisa ordered their big bite breakfast and chose bacon and her eggs sunny side up. She also ordered B&G instead of toast. My omelet was good but it seemed like it was lacking something. The B&G was better than I remember and really good. The fruit cup is a really nice addition and really tasty. Lisa's looked really good and she didn't complain so I guess she liked it. Overall nothing to complain about but nothing to brag about either. 🍺🍺🍺🍷

Big Nates bbq food truck was at the old Leady's food store so we decided to try it out. I got there around 1:30 and the truck was gone. It seemed unlikely they ran out of food at that location so I check their facebook page and they had moved in town. Off I went in town and found them.
They had got run off at the other location and I couldn't have missed them by much. I asked the lady about the ribs, if they were a full rack, if they were baby backs or st louis cut, were they fall of the bones. She said they were half rack with full rack available for $10 more. She wasn't sure what the ribs were but we finally got it down to st louis cut. She assured me they were fall of the bone and she was going to show me. She said she just had to warm them up. She lost me at fall off the bone and warming them up was icing on the cake. I ordered an italian sausage and Lisa ordered an italian beef. We both got fries and baked beans for sides. While she was getting that ready I talked with the guy behind me who is a transplant from chicago. My ordered came and I gave her a $100 bill. She asked if I had anything smaller and I came up with $29 and she took it. The guy behind me said he'd give me a dollar but I told him to give it to her as I was on my way home. The sausage was good but I really didn't care for the bun. It's supposed to be turano bread from chicago. Lisa said the beef was good but she didn't care for the bun either. The fries were good and probably would have been real good if we'd ate them there. The beans were good but very thick. There were lots of what appeared to be pulled pork in them and had a sweet bbq sauce flavor. Overall okay but nothing special. The lady running it was nice and she's a Packer fan so we'll try it again, maybe even chance the reheated ribs. 🍺🍺🍷 (really brought down by the bun) Yesterday Faye's had a guest chef and he was cooking fried chicken to go on one of Faye's biscuits. That sounded really good so I stopped in a got a couple to take home. When I walked in owner Amy had one so I mentioned now I didn't have to ask about it. She said it was a spicy fried chicken breast and right away alarms went off in my head after the day befores fire meal from New Kahala. She assured me it wasn't very spicy and that the hot honey wasn't very hot either.
While I was waiting she also brought out a sample of the chefs porridge consisting of what looked liked nuts, grains and some unknown substances. I enjoyed the sample, very different from the normal stuff I eat. After I looked around the store at all the different things that are available my biscuits were ready. The biscuit was big and very tasty. The fried chicken and honey wasn't very spicy at all and was excellent. About the only thing I could add is that it's the best biscuit sandwich I've ever had. Hope the chef has more guest visits there. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 Yesterday we took the twins out to Kinkaid to see the spillway. I thought it would be roaring but I guess the lake was so low it just filled up. After we dropped them off we went to try Texas Roadhouse in Marion. We'd been to the ones in Cape and O'fallon but not Marion. When we got there the parking lot was full and we found out there was a 30 minute wait. Keep in mind this was at 2pm. My back plan was Frenchmans Widow but when we got there they were only serving soft drinks so I said screw it let's just pick up New Kahala. On the way there we passed Turners Table at Crab Orchard golf course. If Lisa hadn't already order I'd have stopped there.
I'd ordered beef in garlic sauce with extra sauce and veggies, spice level one. I got hot and sour soup as my side. Lisa ordered rice noodles spice level two with an egg roll. When we got home my soup was wonton soup. Not their fault Lisa had fat fingered the app when she ordered. Number 1 spice level is what I normally get but this was way spicier than normal. I'd taken a little of the rice noodles and after one bite I couldn't feel my lips so I didn't eat anymore of it. I ate my order knowing I would regret it but it was so spicy all I could taste was the spiciness. 🌶️🌶️🌶️ On Wednesday we went to Pizza Villa in Jonesboro. It's a place that has been on my radar for quite a while but just hadn't got down to try it. We drove down in a downpour that at times made it hard to see and we hydroplaned a couple times. It had eased up a little when we got there so we made a "run" for it. Run was more like a walk for me, my running days are long gone.
We sat down and a guy came over, come to find out it was Marion, a guy who I'd played in some golf scrambles with and had worked with Fred. We talked for a little bit then order our pizza. We got the Lou but subbed mozzerella instead of provel plus we added mushrooms. When the pizza came out it was very interesting. In the middle it looked like they'd put slices of mozerella but around the edges was more normal looking. Whatever they did to the middle made it very cheesy, more cheesy than either of us care for. The outside pieces had less cheese and were better than he inside ones. Overall the pizza was good but too cheesy. 🍺🍺🍺🍷 I wanted to see the streams at Giant City after the big rain so off we went. They were really running and there were several waterfalls at unexpected places. Wild Flour started making breakfast sandwiches this weekend so I stopped by yesterday to pick up a couple. They have sausage and bacon, both come on ciabatta buns with egg and cheese. I got sausage for me and bacon for Lisa.
Mine was a really good breakfast sandwich and Lisa liked hers. Dax even had a little bit and really like it. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 Yesterday we went to the Scuttle Inn for lunch. A big reason was the italian beef special. We got there around 1:30 and sat in the barroom. There was a lot of noise coming from the other side but when I looked in later there was only one table with two guys at it.
I stayed with my plan and got the Italian beef but I upgraded to a side salad for $3. Lisa got shrimp creole and ordered a side of pasta salad. My salad was a good nice sized salad. The Italian beef was really good. Lisa said her pasta salad was okay which means she really didn't care for it much. The shrimp creole was really good but needed a piece of bread. The service was subpar (golf course, subpar haha). She was more interested in talking and laughing with the table in the other room that waiting on us. 🍺🍺🍺 (brought down by service) Yesterday we met #1 daughter Bailey and her family for pizza at IV's. I've been wanting IV's since we picked up a pizza from there for Lisa's long time friend Tina. We hadn't been there for a few years so it was time.
I was surprised they had Killians on draft so we got a pitcher of that. We got a pepperoni and double mushrooms which is the same thing Tina had ordered. Baileys family got pepperoni and beef with two salads, A lot of history on the walls at IV's but my name is long gone after 40+ years. IV"s pizza is different than any other I've had and that's a good thing. Our pizza was really good and is what I expect there. Even Dax had a little from their pizza and he seemed to really enjoy it, of course who wouldn't if you'd been eating baby food your whole life. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 It's been a quit few weeks for us. Holidays, grandkids, sickness and weather all contributed to not doing much. We've picked up from a few places but stayed home. Thursday we went to Bottoms Up. I went down thinking rueben but when I got there it was wing day and also thought about steak.
The Glue went with fried chicken with a salad and chips. I'm trying to limit my fried food intake so I stayed away from it. The waitress and cooked talked about how good the wings and ribeye were. The Glue ordered and finally decided to try the ribeye. The cook brought out a couple seasonings for me to try. I ordered a medium steak with seasoning I believe was called Oh Yeah. I also got a salad but went with steamed veggies. Normally I would have gotten slaw but they'd had to throw it out that morning. The salad was good and their French dressing is really good. Surprisingly the veggies really hit the spot. The steaks tenderness was great and the flavor was really good but it was cooked to well done instead of medium. Their chicken is always good and the Glue said it was no exception then. Their chips are one of our favorites and hard to stay away from. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 We checked out the spillway on the way home and normally would have gone on a little ride but I had to pick up Ethan from school. We were going to Paducah or Cape yesterday but had to cancel, we should get back to going places more frequently now. |
