Ironically after having a Squatch burger at Jacks today our first game was against our long time rival Squatchy Boccey. A close game was blown wide open when we got a three pointer to jump ahead 8-3. Clinker and I then picked a good time to get our only points of the game and close it out 9-3 victory which was a little hallow since the Squatches were without Chris.
In the second game against #thanksusforyourwin we started out leaving a lot of points on the court with wide open misses. We gradually pulled ahead and put the game away when the Glue threw the pallino long and the #'s put all four of their shots off the back wall for a 9-2 win. We're still not hitting on all four cylinders but we're getting closer. Next week is an off week due to Fourth of July.

Inspired by a pregame pep talk from their captain Roll'em went out and won both games last night without the Glue who was in St. Louis. In the first game a close contest against Boccilism was blown open with a four point frame by us to win 9-5. The second game was against our long time nemesis Squatchy Bocce. It was a back and forth contest that the Squatches were leading 7-6 when Clinker make the throw of the night. Big Ed had led off with a good first throw inches away from the pallino. After an errant throw I got enough of the ball to open it some which is when Clinker made a throw that took the pallino with it about 5' which stood for the point. Ryno then made a good lead off throw which stood up and he was able to get his next ball in for game point in a game that had a lot of good throws. Ryno and Clutch finished off both games in dramatic fashion.
I unveiled a new grip and stance which I'd been working on since I wasn't happen with my throws lately and was very pleased with the result. Hopefully I can continue to work with it a dial it in even better. The Glue and I went over to Herrin for my cousin Jane's daughters outdoor wedding Saturday afternoon. It was at my 92 year old Aunt's place and they had the place looking great. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood when I spent a lot of time over there with my cousin Joey. I'm not overly big on weddings but this one was very enjoyable. The only real downside was that I was in the sun for about half the service and then our table was in the sun for a while also. They had a food truck there fixing a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches which I'd never seen before but really liked the idea. All in all it was a great time talking to my relatives with the added bonus of the groom being a Packer fan.
Once we decided it was time to go we had an option of going to Frenchmans Widow with my nephew who hadn't been there before or with our daughter to Mackies pizza. We went with Bailey to Mackies which was a good choice as the pizza is good and different than the other pizza places around here. The worse part of the evening was a very intense ride home that could have ended in a very bad way but luckily it didn't. Roll'ems first game against the Muddy Rollers was a back and forth close game until we left them an opening and they closed it out, winning 9-6. In second game against the Magnificent 4 our old slow start nemesis returned with us falling behind 6-0. We then rolled a three pointer to close to 6-3 but couldn't keep the momentum and lost 9-3. We had a chance to gain the victory as the 4's used a non-rostered sub even though they had four players present but it wasn't worth it to make a big issue of it. Overall it was a disappointing performance after a pretty strong first week.
As opposed to the Spring season Roll'em If You Got'em started off the summer with a couple strong games winning by a combined 18-3. All four of us had good games which is something that hasn't happened much this year. Hopefully we can continue to build on this and finally get the coveted key ring for winning the Wednesday night regular season (note that we have won the league but it was before key rings were handed out).
The Glue and I ventured up to the big city to see the Giants play the cardinals. We checked into the Drury Inn by the convention center and right away had problems but the Drury staff was so friendly that it was quickly forgotten.
We met our nephew Josh who works in the 'Lou and his girlfriend Nicole at Sugarfire BBQ which was around the corner from our hotel. The ribs were surprisingly good but we didn't care for the baked beans. We then walked down the street to a hole in the wall bar that Josh likes only to find out it doesn't open until 5 (on a Saturday). Across the street was a Mexican place that had Dos Equis Amber on tap which I'd never seen. Then it was off to the stadium so we would make sure to get the double bobblehead that our son-in-law coveted and when we got there the line's were to the end of the street and around the block. Once the doors open the Busch Stadium crew kept the lines moving quickly and didn't allow any line jumpers that I could see and it ended up only being about a 10 minute wait. We stopped in one of the concourse places to have a drink and I finally saw a Busch beer in Busch Stadium along with some other A-B offerings. As for the game itself, the Giants were coasting the first four innings with a 4-0 lead then disaster happened and the Cardinals kept hitting the ball out of the park and the Giants lost 4-7. BTW - Since I was wearing a Giants shirt I had several people wanting to buy my bobbleheads for around $10. Of course they're on ebay today with people bidding into the $40's and $50's for them. All in all a great but too short trip other than the game's outcome. |
