Last night we took on the undefeated Punishers. Even though it was a rainy drizzly type of evening it was much more pleasant than the previous week.
In the first game we gave up a four point then three point frames and were in danger of losing in three frames however the Herbster got a point for us in frame three. We followed with a series of one and two point frames mixed in with one point from the Punishers and all of a sudden the score was 8-6. The Herbster got a throw in close and they were unable to get very close. On the last throw Pete decided to knock and his throw was right on but when the balls stopped moving we were still in and they didn't have anything very close. I shorted my first ball and my second ball was good. I thought I'd cost us a chance at winning but when they measured my first ball barely eked out their balls and we had a 9-8 come from behind win. I'd like to say we kept the momentum going but they got the first two points then we got one. Once again they got two and we got one and it was all them afterwards as we lost big. Roll'em If You Got'em is a disappointing 4-6 but half our wins have been against teams that were previously unbeaten.

I've been down with a sinus infection/bronchitis type thing. I haven't slept good in a while and it's worn me out.
Yesterday I decided I needed to out and we decided to go on a ride around Giant City and then stop by Old Route 51 BBQ to grab some ribs to take home. We ordered ribs, burnt ends and baked beans. The owner normally comes to the window to talk with us and this was no exception. He told us he had a couple kinds of sausage and asked us if we wanted to try a sample of jalapeno and cheese sausage. I don't handle spicy heat anymore and am not a big fan of cheese in sausage but this was very good. Even the Glue liked it and she's not a big fan of sausage. After we left she said she wouldn't mind a taste of the ghost pepper sausage. When we got home and tried to get the ribs out of the box they were falling apart, not how we like them with a little tug. Competition style. Neither of us cared much for them but we both liked the sauce that came with it. In a later message with the owner he said that his customer base complains if there is any tug to them so he cooks them fall of the bone. The burnt ends were on point and the beans are always excellent and it was nice to get out of the house again. 🍺🍺🍺 with the ribs really dragging the score down. Another cold Wednesday night, yuck, and another game on the new court, double yuck. Our game was against the Empty Nesters.
In the first game we were never in the game. They scored point after point and somewhere along the way we managed to eke out two points. A not very competitive 9-2 loss. In the second game we got points in the first two frames but they came back. Helped by a three point frame they had a 7-6 lead. With Herbster closest to the pallino their last throw appeared to be hard which would have given us a good chance at two more and a win. However their throw hit the pallino and they ended up with two points showing. We decided to go for a knock and it looked real good but somehow managed to go between the pallino and the two Empty Nester balls. Our last ball I knew it would move right as it went down the court and I made the throw I wanted but instead of the foot or so break balls had been moving this one broke four feet or so and we lost a much more competitive 9-6 game. We played the third game last night against Big Muddy Monsters. The weather wasn't as cold as I expected and we got started on time.
In the first game they scored first but we gradually pulled away until we gave up a three point frame to close the score however we Herbster finished them off and we won 9-6. In the second game they pulled out to an early lead but we had a two point frame to close the score however that was the only two points we scored and we lost 9-2. On Friday I got another shot in my eyeball and on the way home from Harrisburg we decided to stop at Harbaughs for breakfast Not a good decision but it wasn't the food. It was because of a reaction to the shot that I'd had. I ordered corned beef hash and while it didn't seem as good as Sunny Streets it seemed good. I say seemed because my eyes were watering and my nose was running. The Glue really liked hers and the B&G seemed good.
🍺🍺🍺🍺 Yesterday we I was feeling much better and we went to Von Jakob for lunch. There were two stretch limos there when we got there and two more party buses came in. I ordered an Irish red and the Glue had an Octoberfest. Both seemed off, maybe flat. Our second beer was a dark bock and it was a lot better. We split cajun shrimp street tacos, a meat and cheese plate and a pretzel stick with smoked sausage. The shrimp tacos were good and the smoked sausage was very good. Overall I was disappointed though. While we there we found out the Jacobs family no longer owns it, very surprising to me. 🍺🍺🍷 We once again played the first game but moved from the new court to court 1. The weather was a lot better and the courts had been groomed nicely, thanks Pete. We played long time nemesis Squatchy Bocce. Clutch wasn't there so we took advantage of the rotation rule that I hate and am opposed to but it is the rule again.
In the first game it was a back and forth game and we had the lead 7-6 and the Glue had the closest ball when Chris from Squatchy on his last ball made a great shot and knocked her away and put three of their balls in. With them having game point showing the Glue made a great shot of her own moving the pallino and her ball close to her other ball for two points and the win. The second game started out close but we took the lead only to give up a four point frame. With the score tied 7-7 the Glue once again came up big and got her two balls in for points and the win. All three of us played well but the Glue was outstanding. On Thursday we went to Home Depot to pick up a new lawnmower to replace the one I've been saying needs replaced for four or five years. After we picked it up we went to O'charleys for the first time in a long time. We don't go much to chains anyway, too many good local restaurants.
I ordered honey drizzled chicken breast with mashed sweet potatoes and slaw. The Glue got chicken fingers with a salad and potato soup. The Glues salad was good but the croutons were mediocre. The chicken finger I tried wasn't overly impressive either. On the other hand my chicken breast was good as were the mashed sweet potatoes. The slaw left a lot to be desired though. They only had three servers and the poor bartender/server in our area was working his butt off and doing a great job. 🍺🍺🍺 On Friday I discovered I should have had Home Depot put the lawn mower together. It shouldn't have been a big deal but either I'm doing something wrong or there is an alignment problem with one of the handle bolts. We ended up going to Hamps food truck. We hadn't been there for quite a while and the Glue had been craving a gyro. We both got gyros and split a pound of wings. The gyros were humongous and very good. I'm not sure what they do to the meat but it is great. We were both surprised at the wings being fried but the were very good too. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍷 On Sunday we visited Route 51 Brewery for a beer and lunch. We both had their brown ale and I had a dopplebock for my second. We ran into a couple who used to play bocce which was nice.
I ordered a rueben with fries and the Glue ordered bbq nachos. My sandwich was good but very sloppy and the fries were solid. The Glues nachos looked really good and for once she wasn't disappointed. They were good and they use shredded cheese instead of cheese sauce. 🍺🍺🍺🍷 On Wednesday we were having trouble deciding what to eat when I checked One Hot Cookie and they were having cajun week. Cajun always gets our attention so we ordered a cajun sampler and a pint of etouffee. The sampler consisted of crawfish etouffee, shrimp creole, red beans and rice, shrimp and grits, a biscuit and cookies. Yum or so we thought. The shrimp creole didn't look like any creole I've had before and it wasn't all that great. The red beans and rice were thick and I'm not overly big on them anyway. The etouffee was ok but the Glue said it tasted fishy. I'm not real familiar with grits but these seemed decent. To top it off I'd ordered oatmeal raisin cookies and it was only oatmeal and I don't like that near as much. It pains me but 🍺🍷 The return of Roll'em If Ya Got'em got off to a disappointing start. Playing a new team Solid Shooters who had two players who hadn't played before we started off with two losses.
In the first game they got the first point but we got three on the next throw. They got on a roll but we closed the gap before losing 9-7. In the second game we were never really in the game, losing 9-4. They made the throws when they needed to and we didn't. Hopefully we'll rebound next week and we'll have better weather too. |
