Much improved weather for us as we played our week 2 games.
In the first game we played 2 Boobs and 2 Girls. We started out the game with a 2-0 lead but 2 Boobs came storming back and took a 5-2 lead. We got a single point frame and then a much needed three point frame to go ahead 6-5. We each got single points and then with us showing a point Clutch's last throw barely got past 2 Boobs closest ball for the winning point and we won a game we probably didn't deserve. In the second game we played #thankus4urwin. We got four points on our first throw and never looked back rolling to a 9-1 win over #thankus. Their game seemed just a little off and we took advantage of every chance we got. On cold crappy Monday night the Glue had to fill in for a sick Fred. We beat PBR 9-7 in a close game and then in the second game beat Magnificent 4.

Friday evening we headed back over to T Street Pub in Christopher. Most places around have some sort of fish special on Friday nights and T Street was no different offering all you can eat catfish but I went over determined to get something different. We both decided on 24 ounce Shiner Bock drafts which came in an ice cold frosty mug. The Glue decided to go with the Pasta Roma. I wavered on not getting the fish but I stuck to the plan and went with grilled shrimp pasta. I think our choices were mainly because of how good the pasta bar looked and smelled when we'd been there a couple weeks before. Both pastas came with salads and we both got the house sweet Italian. The salads only had lettuce, carrots and cheese but were topped with two slices of pepperoni and were real good as was the house dressing. My pasta were too dry and needed more of the garlic butter sauce. It was ok but it basically it tasted a lot like plain pasta. The Glue thought hers could use more sauce but I thought it was just right and we both thought it was very good.
The place wasn't very crowded when we got there but it was filling up fast by the time we left. With the variety of the menu and the quality of the food not to mention a good selection of draft beer I'm sure it will be on our list of go to places and we'll be back sooner rather than later. We're back.
Roll'em If Ya Got'em was back in action last night with the original players and it felt good to be together again. In the first game we took on Bocce-licious on the Silkworm court. After a 2-2 start me and Herbster gave up a three pointer to them but with it 5-4 we came back with a four point frame and an 8-5 lead. Bocce-licious wasn't done though and got the score to 8-7 when they had a chance to win on their two last balls but one was short and the other was off target. The Glue's second shot was pretty good but was knocked out but Clutch came through again knocking thier ball out. Their last ball just missed and we won 9-8. In the second game we moved to the Kiwanis court against Mission: Imbocceball. We jumped out to a 4-1 lead but the girls gave up a four point frame to make it 5-4 them. Clutch and the Glue made up for it with a couple points to make it 6-5. The Herbster's first throw was a good one and their last throw hit their closets ball and left we it wide open for us. We took advantage and won 9-5. I'm also playing for ex-super sub Fred's team Boro City Rollers on Monday night's. We also had a good night beating Deboccery in a close game before running away from I'll Have Another in the second game. It was great seeing all the bocce people again but it was especially great to be rolling with Herbster and Clutch Cargo. What a weekend. This past weekend was Murphysboro's annual St. Patrick's day celebration and what a great time. To start it off we met Bailey, Shad and the grandtwins uptown to watch the parade. The grandtwins really enjoyed it, especially all the dogs in the parade. I think twin#2 waved at everything that went by. Afterwards we all walked up the street to Brews Brothers and set upside in the sun. The grandtwins were being good and we ended up having a couple more beers than we anticipated. Lots of people hanging around having a good time and of course the Irish Stew competition was going on. When the grandtwins left I wanted to go to Molly's Pint for a beer. On our way there we checked out the fountain which had been dyed green for the celebration. Great job by the city of Murphysboro.
We once again set outside at Molly's Pint and ordered their Irish Red which is my favorite beer there. They had a band playing inside and it was crowded while outside didn't have as many people as I thought there would be. We talked to Mike and Daisy most of the time we were there plus my nephew and his wife showed up for a while. We ended up having several more than the one I'd planned on and I ended up with a sunburned face because of it. At this point it was time to get home for the corned beef and potatoes that the Glue had fixed which turned out awesome. Sunday was the annual St, Patricks Day bocce tournament and the Grumpy Shillelagh's set out to defend our title. What a deference a year makes especially in the weather after last year being so cold. The Glue's Irish Stew once again went over big but not as big as last year with the better weather. Our first game was against long time rivals the Eclectics and was on the north court and it was very fast. Fred and the Glue tried to keep up in the game but me and Ted couldn't find our range and the Eclectics beat us 9-7. The second game we played PBR on the middle court. We started out on top but they came back and it was a close game all the way to the end with us winning 9-7. Ted changed his grip and threw a lot better but I still struggled. The third game was against Late Comers, a last minute thrown together team who won their first two games. We had to win to have any chance of defending our title and we rose to the occasion. We jumped out to a 6-0 and never let them get much going, winning 9-3. This put us in a roll off against the Eclectics and Late Comers with only one team advancing. I had Ted roll first for us with Fred to follow. Ted was the first thrower and made a good throw, a little more than a foot away. The other first round throwers couldn't beat it so it went to the second round and none of them beat it either so Fred didn't have to throw. In the playoffs we played Can't Be Trusted who had our two players who played for the Grumpy Shillelagh's last year. I decided I need to throw first and Ted second as he was out throwing me. I also made a minor adjustment to my stance and it really helped. We got on Can't Be Trusted early and once again didn't let them come back, beating them 9-5 and advancing to the championship. For the championship we played Big Muddy Monsters. The started off leading 2-0 and we tied 2-0 but the rest was the Monsters as they walked away with a 9-4 win and the championship. This weekend is the annual St. Patrick's Day celebration in Murphysboro but it got off to a very sad start with the news Jack's Meat Market and Deli burned. The early reports indicate that it is most likely a total loss. One of my favorite places and also very convenient to the people on the west end of town. Jack's recently changed ownership and I hadn't been in there since it had changed since I'd stocked up right before the change. I was planning on stopping in yesterday for a few things but my plans changed and I was planning on stopping in today instead. It's one of the places I always talk about when I talk about the revitalization of Murphysboro. Hopefully the new owners will be able to rebuild and make it bigger and better.
We don't use our Top 20's as much as we should so on Friday night we decided to go to Bottoms Up and use it for the first time. The Glue got the fried chicken with a salad and slaw. I got the all you can eat catfish special with slaw and chips. Both were excellent choices, the only complaint would be about the chips. The complaint wouldn't be about taste, they were good, just a lot of fried food.
Yesterday we went to Route 51 because we hadn't been there in a while and the menu we found online listed gumbo which we wanted to try. When we got there it wasn't on the menu but they said they are revamping the menu some and probably will have gumbo and po' boys on it. We both went with the Irish Red and while it was good it needed to be colder. We ended up getting a pretzel and and order of wings in asian sauce. Both were good but the pretzel needed more salt. From there we stopped at Backwater Pub for the first time. It used to be Ten Pin Alley and we knew it was going to be a good time when some guys at the bar harassed us when we walked in. We both got a Shiner Bock tall and enjoyed the show. The guys were in town for the midget races and were from Iowa. The couple next to us were also in for the races from Ohio. We had a really good time and probably should have stayed there for another one. We then went to Sandies which is where Larry's Pit BBQ used to be. This is a new place and it didn't have a very good selection of beer. There were a couple guys at the bar and we had a good discussion with them and added a couple places to my checklist. Next we headed over to the Hop in Christopher and had a couple of their Irish Red which is probably my favorite locally brewed beer. We were the only two in the place so there wasn't anything happening. The Glue did try their chili which was ok but had too many beans in it for either of us. We then went to T Street pub for the first time. As soon as we walked in there was a strong scent of garlic cooking. They had a pasta bar set up which looked and smelled awesome. I talked to the guy running it and they do it every Saturday night so we'll probably be back there shortly to try it out. While we were at the bar drinking our beer (Stag for me, Shiner Bock for the Glue) we got to talking with the bartender who asked us if we'd been to a bar down the street called S & S Tavern and I said we almost did. Come to find out he was the owner of S & S and also T Street and he gave us each a drink chip for S & S. We ordered a pizza from Dimaggio's to bring home. Once we got home it really hit the spot but needed to be warmer which we knew was going to be a problem. The Grumpy Shillelagh's will defend their title in the annual St. Patrick's day tournament although we will have Ted and Fred playing instead of Dan and Jean who are playing with their regular team Can't Be Trusted. Hopefully the weather will be better than last years cold and cloudy weather. Barring any complications the Glue will once again have her Irish Stew and Irish beer bread.
We had to miss the VFW tournament because of me being sick. I hated having to miss and could have played but it was a much better decision staying home. Can't Be Trusted ended up winning it and I'm sure we'll try to get a team next year. |
