Even though Roll'em If Ya Got'em decided to take the summer off I ended up subbing almost every week for Brick Dust Blues. When the tournament rolled around their other team, Can't Be Trusted, needed a player so I played for them.
In the first game we played the Punishers. What a game. It went back and forth but we finally opened up a lead only to let them tie it at 8-8. We got lucky when Kenny's last ball went off another ball and got in for the game winner. In the second game we played No Beer, No Bocce, a team I was not familiar with. They keep it close enough to give us a scare but we closed them out with a 9-5 win. In the last pool game we played Rikki Rick and the Funky Bunch. Rick is an old classmate of mine and Rikki is his daughter. The Funky Bunch is Ricks other daughter Sunshine and rounding out the team is Tim Tim who used to run around with our son. The first two games were on the third court but we moved to the first court for this one. We got out early and kept going for a 9-4 win. In the first round of the playoffs we met Holly Ballz. Fred had played with Boro City Rollers and they had CJ playing for them instead. Any throw I made somehow Jann got inside of me no matter how far away. We got a hard fought 9-6 win that was closer than the score. In the second round we played Big Muddy Monsters. This was the one game we threw pretty well and we walked away with a 9-0 win to advance to the finals In an oddity the other semi final game was also a 9-0 game with the Punishers beating the Ringers. In a repeat of our first game of the day we played the Punishers for the league tournament championship. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead but we answered and they game went back and forth before reaching 8-8 once again. It took us three balls before we got in their first throw so Pete went for the knock but was wide right. His next shot will be remember for a long time. He once again went for the knock and as he was continuing his normal run down the court he caught his toe and went for a tumble. The throw missed once and and when their last throw didn't get in we were the Champions. Thanks to Can't Be Trusted for the opportunity. Also thanks to Danny, Jean and especially Kenny for carrying me all day.
