Friday we went to Jack Russell's Fish House in Benton in part so we could use our top 20. It was a beautiful day for a ride but was a little cool with the windows down and the T tops off so we had to roll up the windows.
At Jack Russells I once again got catfish with slaw and onion rings. The Glue's trying to eat better so she got peel and eat shrimp with a salad and red beans and rice. Once again the slaw was not great and while the catfish was ok it wasn't as good as the previous time. The onion rings were good though. The peel and eat shrimp were real good but the red beans and rice seemed to be primarily beans and were just ok. Last time the salad wasn't very impressive but this time it was the best thing we ordered and the croutons were excellent. We walked across the street to Sandy's Bar and Grill and boy did it smell good when we walked in. I thought it smelled like grilled onions and the Glue couldn't really place it. They were cooking Italian beef but had also just fixed a patty melt. In talking I happened to mention we were from Murphysboro and what turned out to be the owner said she was born there. Come to find out I'd gone to jr high and my freshman year with her brother. She was a year behind me and they'd moved the year she came into high school. Also in talking the Glue mentioned the smell and they brought out a small sample of the italian beef which tasted a lot like what the Glue used to make. To Close out the day we went to Pheasant Hollow (hollow hollow) winery. The Glue got a Shiner Bock while I tried a Drunken Piper Scottish ale from Baums Brewhouse in Waltonville. I was really good and reminded me of a Scottish ale I usually keep in the beer fridge. It was so nice I got a second one but the Glue got a slushy where they combined the red and white slushys and it was excellent. Outside was starting to get in the shadows and cooling down so it was time to head home. Before we could head out the Glue decided to get a couple slushy's to go and I picked up a bottle of Sauced Up Smokers bbq sauce. The Glue looked like a kid who'd gone to DQ sitting there eating her slushy with spoon.
