In the fall tournament this year we had a couple of incidents that were out of control and close to becoming fisticuffs. It's always been a laid back and friendly environment at the bocce courts and it was hard seeing these incidents occur. Disagreements are one things, fighting is uncalled for over a game.
I only saw a little bit of each incident and didn't see what started either one. One of the participants I'd only met that day when we played his team but he seemed like a nice guy to me. One of the other participants I've only met through bocce while the other two I've know prior to playing bocce. I'm sure alcohol played a part in at least some of the people involved and it's my hope that there aren't any restrictions placed on having alcohol at the courts. One of the great things about our leagues are that you are free to bring your own refreshments and not have to buy it there. Our league president, Brad, did a good job breaking up both incidents and not allowing them to escalate. He put himself between the parties and moved them away from each other. Nice job Brad. It's been rumored that one of the players has been banned from the courts for a year. Apparently this was the third time he has been warned about this type of behavior. This seems kind of harsh but something has to be done to keep this type thing from happening. As our daughter, Little Precious, said when we were telling her about it: "over bocce?", "over bocce?".

A bit harsh...I think not. These are adults we’re talking about who were about to PUNCH each other over BOCCE?! It’s supposed to be a fun, friendly, yet competitive atmosphere. Win or lose show some sportsmanship and set examples for others. I wonder if these adults ever complain about the way “these younger generations” act. If I were to guess I’d say they probably have...just saying...maybe these adults should take a year off bocce and take some time to self reflect, and self improve.

I can't disagree much. My thoughts were more like a one season ban and then probation for the rest of the year and maybe the next year but I don't have all that went into making this decision.
