It amazes me what happens to seemingly normal people when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Almost every time I go out I see someone do something that causes me to shake my head. Yesterday we were going to Thai Taste and as we were coming into carbondale at the new and old 13 intersection I went through the traffic light as it turned yellow. I looked in my mirror and the car that was quite a bit behind me came through too. I'm talking at least five seconds after it turned red and the car was going at least 60mph and probably faster.
Last Friday we're driving down Walnut and a car barely slowed down at the stop sign on north 19th and pulled out in front of me. What made me shake my head is that the car proceeded to drive 5mph under the speed limit and that the next car behind me was 2 1/2-3 blocks behind me. A couple months ago I was coming into Murphysboro on new 13 and a car buzzed around me and the car ahead of me and went immediately from the left lane to the turn lane. What really got me was another car did the same thing but cut me off as it went between the my car and the car ahead of me when there was nobody behind me. This car pulled into Jackson Square a couple seconds before I did. I don't know how many times cars have tried to get around a few cars when Walnut goes from 2 to 1 lane in front of Walgreens. It makes my day when a few cars try to jump in front a line of cars and then the front one has to wait to make a left turn and the jumpers have to wait. I guess the one that takes the cake was a couple months ago I was coming out of Walmart and heading to new 13. The light was green on Country Club and I saw a eastbound car come down the exit ramp. Not a big deal but the car didn't slow down and cut across both lanes of Country Club Rd. and went up the entrance ramp to 13. Two months later I'm still shaking my head at this one. I won't even get into all the people who ride the left lane between Murphy and c'dale or c'dale and carterville or various other things I see on a regular basis. I don't understand why so many people are in such a hurry that they risk having a wreck to gain a couple seconds. Most people have paid a lot of money for their vehicles but seem to be in such a hurry to get out of that vehicle. Relax and enjoy your vehicle.
